Tycoon Tidbit: What If… the Way We Think Could Change the World?

“What If…?” “What If…?” “What If…?” If you haven’t heard of these guys and their thought-provoking, head-turning, education-shaking idea you will very soon.

 

What do you get when you mix disruptive thinking with a room full of social media accounts? You get the “What If…?” Conference. This event is unrivaled in its field, the unique aspects of this event adds value to the lives of many through posing questions first instead of providing answers. This year the “What If…?” Conference is going big. “Over 300 off-stage presenters will join our 20 question-askers. With people from city government, to entrepreneurs, to academics, to world class innovators, to aspiring change-makers, we’re challenging the status-quo through presentations, films, performances, installation artwork, and workshops.”

This conference is all about creating “A gathering of innovation, jumpstarted by questions, propelled by curiosity.” Team led by Matt Murrie and Andrew R McHugh (@arm5629) are assembling an event that is sure to rock social media sites like Facebook and Twitter during each and every presentation. Don’t be shocked if you log on and your feed is full of the hashtag #WhatIf or #WI14 or even most recently #WhatIfWed.

The day of presenters will have thoughts contributed from names like: Jack Andraka (@jackandraka ), Collin Bunch of the SBTDC in Columbia (@collin_bunch) asking “What If We Could Quantify Wasted Human Capital And Turn It Into A Resource?” Beth Sanders (@MsSandersTHS) posing “What If Every Student Was In Control Of Their Own Learning?” and Carlos Gil (@CarlosGil83) asking What If I Never Lost My Job In 2008?” these question and so many more are sure to inspire a barrage of your own #WhatIf questions and then its up to you to take those and make your thought come true.

My #WhatIf was posed and Matt Murrie (@mattmurrie) challenged me to make this happen. From his challenge, I began writing what I enjoy talking and thinking about: Youth Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Education (and innovation in education), and lastly community and what the entrepreneurs within them are doing to leave their mark and make their homes a better place, just like Matt and his team are doing with “What If…?” LLC (@thewhatifLLC).
